We’re born with innate confidence, but life can erode it. As babies, we know we are worthy of love, attention, and care without any second thoughts. Over time, though, negative experiences, trauma, and self-doubt creep in, leading us to lose sight of our own value and self-worth. But that spark of confidence you had as a child is still there—it’s waiting to be rediscovered, to remind you of the incredible potential you hold within.

A Real-Life Example from My Practice

A 34-year-old woman came to me with a deep desire to boost her confidence. She was struggling with feelings of inadequacy, especially around others. She couldn’t speak up for herself, had difficulty setting boundaries with her family, and didn’t believe she was worthy of love. Her goal was to change all of this—build strong self-esteem, be open to new relationships, and confidently say no when necessary. Through hypnosis, we uncovered multiple childhood experiences where she felt manipulated by her parents. These experiences led her to take on roles that made her feel accepted, but also limited her freedom. She was shocked to realize how deeply her subconscious mind was influenced by the beliefs of a 7 or 8-year-old child. It became clear why she had been unable to detach from her family’s opinions, and how that had kept her from taking responsibility for her life. We also uncovered the root cause of her social anxiety: a traumatic experience during a college exam where she was humiliated in front of her peers. This led her to isolate herself and avoid social situations, including parties and gatherings. After two hours of reconnecting with herself, releasing suppressed emotions, and reparenting herself, she felt an overwhelming sense of relief. She realized that life wasn’t happening to her—it was happening for her. She understood that only she could create the life she wanted. The changes she experienced were immediate. She felt empowered to speak confidently in public and set boundaries with her parents, even though it wasn’t easy. Her family didn’t understand the changes, but she knew that growth came at a price. As she continued to expand her confidence, she saw old friendships fade and some family dynamics shift, but she was ready to embrace these changes in order to heal and rediscover her true self. In just three weeks, she sent me an update on her progress. Her posture and tone had changed dramatically, and she felt freer to express herself. She told me, “I feel like I’ve woken up from a long sleep after 34 years.” No matter your age or past, it’s never too late to reprogram your mind and create a new future for yourself. That’s the beauty of adulthood—the power to shape your reality.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common symptoms of ADHD include inattention (difficulty sustaining attention, following through on tasks, and organizing activities), hyperactivity (excessive fidgeting, inability to stay seated, and talking excessively), and impulsivity (interrupting others, difficulty waiting for turns, and making hasty decisions). These symptoms can vary in severity and may present differently in children and adults.

ADHD is diagnosed through a comprehensive evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional, which includes gathering information from multiple sources such as medical history, behavior checklists, and interviews with the individual and their family or teachers. Standardized assessment tools and psychological tests may also be used to rule out other conditions and confirm the diagnosis.

Treatment for ADHD typically involves a combination of medication, behavioral therapy, and educational interventions. Medications such as stimulants (e.g., methylphenidate, amphetamines) and non-stimulants (e.g., atomoxetine) can help manage symptoms. Behavioral therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and parent training, can provide strategies for managing behavior and improving organizational skills. Educational support, such as individualized education programs (IEPs) or 504 plans, can assist in academic settings.

ADHD treatments are generally effective in managing symptoms and improving functioning. Medications can significantly reduce hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattention, while behavioral therapies can teach coping skills and strategies for managing daily challenges. The effectiveness of treatment can depend on the individual’s unique needs and their adherence to the treatment plan.

Yes, adults can be diagnosed with and treated for ADHD. Many adults with ADHD may have had symptoms since childhood, but they may not have been recognized or diagnosed earlier. Adult ADHD can impact work, relationships, and daily functioning, but effective treatments, including medication and therapy, can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life.
